Koen Maes - Manager

Koen Maes holds a PhD in Zoology. He is attached as a collaborating scientist to the Africa Museum in Tervuren,Belgium; he has done research on collections of The Natural History Museum in London and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. to name a few. He has an active knowledge of Dutch, French, English and German.He undertook and participated in several collaborative scientific projects in Africa. Koen Maes came the first time in Cameroon in 1980 as a member of the scientific expedition: ”Ecological zonations on Mount Cameroon” and again he came in 1982 with the expedition:” Fauna and Flora of the Cameroonian Highlands”. In 1988 he became a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Dschang in Western Cameroon. In Cameroon, Koen Maes hunts since 1990 first for the local administration and later as an assistant professional hunter. When he obtained his license as a professional hunter, he got the opportunity to take over a big game hunting concession that had been managed conservatively since 1995. It appears to be a unique opportunity to develop a model of a sustainable hunting.He hunts in the savannah and forest areas of Cameroon. He is also the Secretary General of the Cameroon Professional Hunters.
